Lead Carpenter

Black Mountain Builders is seeking a full-time Lead Carpenter to join our team. In this role, you will help lead construction projects from the field, supporting the Site Supervisors/Owners while guiding a crew through all phases of the build process.

The ideal candidate brings at least 5 consecutive years of hands-on field experience and 1 year or more in a leadership role. We are looking for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, enjoys mentoring and sharing knowledge with teammates, and can confidently help manage crews ranging from 2 to 8 carpenters.

An interest in building science and high-performance building is a plus.

We work primarily on residential projects within a 45-minute driving distance from Brattleboro.

Responsibilities

• Assist in leading construction projects and daily field operations
• Support the Site Supervisor and Owners in project execution
• Coordinate and guide a small crew of carpenters
• Mentor team members and promote a positive, collaborative work environment
• Maintain job site organization, efficiency, and quality standards
• Anticipate upcoming project needs, challenges, and next steps to keep work progressing smoothly
• Understanding and setting task specific quality tolerances for the team
• Perform consistent high-quality carpentry skills in a safe and time effective manner
• Arrange and receive material deliveries, inspect material quality and quantities, and ensure materials are properly secured and stored
